This study demonstrates a weak link between gender-migration and development in Egypt, a direct result of the small percentage of female migrants compared to the number of males. On the other hand, the empowerment of women, especially in terms of human capital, is positively correlated to male temporary migration, as a result of the role of remittances in the development of human-capital skills. The Egyptian government’s policies impedes the development of gender migration, through restrictive laws and sanctions against the migration of single women abroad. Policies concerning the employment of foreign females in the Egyptian market are also restrictive, which poses a problem for bringing out the full potential of migration for development.
