Hoe Gelijkwaardig Blijft Het Eindexamen Tussen Scholen In Nederland? Discrepanties Tussen De Cijfers Voor Het Schoolonderzoek En Het Centraal Examen In Het Voortgezet Onderwijs Tussen1998 En 2005

Abstract

Het Nederlands voortgezet onderwijs kent een eindexamen dat bestaat uit een schoolexamen en een centraal examen. In dit onderzoek analyseren wij de discrepanties in de becijfering van deze twee soorten examens tussen 1998 en 2005, omdat deze een bedreiging vormen voor de gelijkwaardigheid van het eindexamen tussen scholen. Op basis van de Kwaliteitskaarten Voortgezet Onderwijs van de Inspectie van het Onderwijs hebben wij voor de periode 1998 - 2005, per onderwijstype en per vestiging het verschil in de becijfering onderzocht en verklaard met behulp van school- en examenkenmerken. De belangrijkste conclusies zijn dat er tussen 1998 en 2005 een trend is naar steeds grotere discrepanties tussen de schoolexamen- en centraalexamencijfers en dat deze groei het sterkst is in het VWO. Ook is de correlatie tussen zowel de verschillende jaren, als tussen de onderwijstypen dermate hoog, dat er sprake is van een sterke continuïteit in de individuele eindexamenresultaten. Dit duidt er op dat de intrinsieke waarde van het diploma steeds verder achteruit gaat. Abstract

How equivalent remains the central examination between schools in the Netherlands? Discrepancies between the grades of the school exam and the national central exam of secondary education between 1998 and 2005 The Dutch secondary education comprehends a final examinations system in which students take both a school exam (that differs among every school) and a national central exam. We analyse the discrepancies in the grades for both these examinations between 1998 and 2005, as they are a threat to the equivalence of the examinations between schools. Based on the Kwaliteitskaarten Voortgezet Onderwijs (Quality-cards of Secondary Education) collected by the Schools Inspectorate, we first examined the discrepancies in the grades for the period of 1998 till 2005, classified by type of education and also by school and then explained these discrepancies by using school- and examination-characteristics. Our most important finding is the trend towards growing discrepancies in the school examgrades and central exam-grades. Moreover, this growth turns out to be the strongest among the VWO (the highest level of education). We also find a high correlation between the several years, as well as between the types of education, which points out a strong continuity in the individual examination results. This indicates the fact that the intrinsic value of the diplomas in education has been deteriorating.
