Abstract:
This paper stresses the importance of the Masonic sources for the study of the modern and contemporary migrations on the scale of the individuals and the scale of the community. It studies the participation of the Greeks in the Marseilles Masonic life in the 19th century to show that it lies within the broader scope of the adhesion of "Eastern" - the migrants originating in the Eastern basin of the Mediterranean- to the Freemasonry. If « Philhellènes » show a real capacity to use the Masonic networks of assistance, correspondence and friendship to serve the national cause, the Greek community of Marseilles is in fact divided.
