Abstract
With decreasing birth rates and rising life expectancy, Europe is literally becoming the world’s oldest continent. Increased immigration cannot fully compensate for the effects of ageing and shrinking populations on the economy and on social welfare. However, it yet helps to mitigate them in the short run
