Abstract
Lloyd Shapley was my colleague at UCLA for many years; by the time he moved from RAND to UCLA he was already a legend – although he never acted the part doing his best to maintain the reputation of mathematicians as somewhat idiosyncratic souls. He claimed to me at one time that the optimal length of the day was 25 hours and that therefore one should wake up an hour later every day – although I do not believe he fully implemented this. The purpose of this special issue is to celebrate Lloyd Shapley the legend. We also remember Lloyd Shapley the man.
