Abstract
In a row of major decisions, the CJEU has declared domestic provisions on the general and indiscriminate retention of traffic and location data to be incompatible with the Charter of Fundamental Rights. In joined Cases C-793/19 and C-794/19, the Court scrutinized the German provisions and found them as inacceptable as those of other Member States before. This comment takes a closer look at the jurisprudence of the CJEU.
