Abstract
This entry introduces the concept of voter turnout and the various approaches used to measure it. It reviews recent developments in turnout research and explains their significance. The entry examines both individual-level and macro-level factors that influence citizens’ decision to vote or abstain. It also considers strategies designed to raise turnout levels and concludes by identifying key avenues for future research.
