dc.description.abstract | Given the longstanding debate over which organizational framework for innovation leads to the best results in terms of scientific and industrial outcomes, this chapter aims to shed light on the different characteristics of two of the most relevant present models, namely the Standard Setting Organizations (SSOs) and the SILOs/Platforms. The chapter investigates how their peculiar characteristics impact the final market and societal outcomes. The two models are compared along three major dimensions: innovation quality, market competition, and transparency and accountability to societal goals. In the final part, we sketch an overview of the two models also in light of three recent strategic evolutions: the increasing geopolitical tensions, the development of AI, and the quest for competitive advantages at the national level. | en |
