| dc.description.abstract | The value of data is widely acknowledged, and in democratic institutions, data can play an important role when striving for more transparency, innovative working methods, and evidence-based decisions. Open data is public data made available for re-use in a machine-readable, non-proprietary format, for direct re-use. For parliaments, the publication of open data can be an additional way to implement openness, increase the accountability of their work, and strengthen democracy by offering new possibilities for citizen participation. This study examines what data national parliaments in the European Union publish as open data and seeks answers to questions “why”, “how”, “who”, and “with what impact”. It looks for the drivers and expectations and discusses the implications of parliamentary open data. This is done through an analysis of the web portals/pages of national parliaments dedicated to the publication of open data, and of a questionnaire sent to all 39 national parliaments of EU Member States. | en |
