dc.description.abstract | This policy brief focuses on the digital gender gap in Africa, a critical issue highlighted by The World Bank. We look into why men’s and women's internet use differ significantly, due to factors such as affordability, limited content availability and digital literacy gaps that exacerbate the digital divide. This situation necessitates urgent action to bridge the gap. In this policy brief we discuss the collaborative efforts of regional organisations like the African Union (AU) and its partnerships with entities such as the European Union (EU) to comprehensively address this challenge. The AU-EU Summit's commitment, particularly through initiatives such as the ‘D4D Hub,’ demonstrates a concerted effort to develop solutions tailored to Africa's specific needs. This document highlights gender-related challenges in the tech sector, particularly the digital gender gap perpetuated by unequal access to education and technology, which hinders women's participation in various sectors. | en |
