dc.description.abstract | Unique primary data for the Marie Curie HEIDI- Higher Education Informal Diplomacy project, collected through a questionnaire administered from May 27th to June 12th, 2024 (with an extension until June 30th, 2024) and finalized on July 15th, 2024, to ensure inclusion of all EUI alliance member institutions. The questionnaire was conducted through Qualtrics and explored various themes, including institutional characteristics, context, and dynamics: specifically, it examined institutional strategy, autonomy (including the influence of stakeholders), partnerships intra and extra EU, added value of being part of an alliance, reputation, positioning, and the integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into institutional strategies. This project, part of the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship titled "HEIDI - Higher Education Informal Diplomacy", investigates how Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) within the European Universities Initiative (EUI) alliances combine diplomatic agency with knowledge production. Focusing on these alliances, the project defines informal diplomacy as the "unstructured and structured exchange of knowledge, ideas, and initiatives among academic institutions and stakeholders outside formal diplomatic channels." This encompasses activities like scholarships, mobility programs, joint degrees, joint campuses, alumni networks, research collaborations addressing global challenges and Sustainable Development Goals. The overarching objective of the questionnaire was to understand the dynamics of higher education informal diplomacy within the EUI alliances. Specifically, it aimed to: (i) map the key actors, activities, objectives, drivers, enablers, and challenges; (ii) identify the roles of different stakeholders in these dynamics; and (iii) validate preliminary conceptualizations of higher education informal diplomacy to inform subsequent qualitative phases of the project. The dataset includes 298 individual responses, from 201 institutions, 52 alliances, and 33 countries. The completed surveys are 181, from 156 institutions and all the 52 alliances. | en |
dc.description.version | Original data collection. Data were collected through Qualtrics survey, distributed via e-mail, in the period from May 27th 2024 to July 15th 2024. E-mail invitations were sent to 700 institutional representatives known to be involved in the administration or decision-making concerning an alliance. Respondents were individuals, members of senior leadership of staff, who work on the coordination and/or delivery of the alliance in their university. | en |
