| dc.description.abstract | This article provides an overview of recent research that brings together environmental history with the history of development projects. To provide orientation within a newly emerging field, the article distinguishes between three strands of research: A. studies that focus on the notion of the environment as a resource for economic development; B. studies that analyze how political actors considered “nature” as a developmental resource that could be used to re-design societies according to political and ideological visions; and C. studies that are concerned with the ecological and social effects of developmental projects. | |
