The Argentinean crisis of 2001 was a social explosion directed toward those national authorities that had produced a singular impasse due to the incapacity of the political elites to rebalance the political system. Because of the delay on the institutional re-equilibrium, political opportunities arose to allow the constitution of an ‘emergency’ form of organization and identity where deliberation by assembly is its fundamental constituent. By studying the emergence context of the assembly’s social movement, we respond to the following question: Why did the social explosion of December 2001 in Buenos Aires favour the formation of a social movement?
