dc.description.abstract | In analysing the new modes of governance in regulation in accordance with the guiding questions of the book, the authors first focus on the proximate causes that gave rise to the emergence of new modes (emergence), and second the instruments that are applied and their link to governement (execution). They then focus on the development of the new modes of governance over time (evolution). Finally, they turn to the effects of the new modes and evaluate the conditions under which policy is effective with a particular emphasis on the influence of governmental intervention or 'the shadow of hierarchy' (evaluation/effectiveness). Lastly, they consider the structural impact of the new modes on democratic accountability. | |
