For fighting fraud, insurance companies use different tools, being a relevant one the use and interconnection of databases containing personal information. There is, indeed, a clear interaction between data protection, which regulates the processing of personal data, and the activity of fighting insurance fraud. Taking into account this scenario, this article will analyse the European experience regarding data protection and insurance fraud fight, with focus on the initiatives carried out in the UK and in Italy (in the field of insurance fraud fight), trying to demonstrate that the adoption of data protection rules, a priori, does not create constraints for the fight against insurance fraud, and, can also make it more efficient, since one of the foundations of all data protection legislation is the data quality principle.en
