Low economic growth is a common problem to many developed economies. Notwithstanding several socio-economic aspects of this problem have been analyzed in details, less attention has been placed on demographic factors. This paper aims at filling this gap by highlighting the potential role played by demographic behaviors, especially international migrations, in supporting the economic growth. By focusing on the it case, we derive under which conditions immigration can become from potential resource to actual support for economic welfare and the corresponding policy implications. Nevertheless, we demonstrate as, at a disaggregate level, new problems may arise as the uneven distribution of immigrants and the common problem of the very low fertility will increase the economic gap among it regions, specifically between the North and the South of the country.
