This paper is a personal reflection of the role of a Permanent Representative in Brussels. It offers insights into the thought processes of an individual member of COREPER which plays a central role in the EU’s negotiating system. Permanent Representatives are ‘boundary managers’ between the domestic and the EU. The complex thought processes of an EU ambassador are analysed by focussing on seven different dimensions of this complex role.en
