The most recent symbolic but also realistically materialized narrative for a Turkish so called "sea-blue homeland", implying a sea-going and ruling tradition across and along the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, sends messages to multiple recipients about the regional power of the country, the understanding of and investment in the sea power, shipping and ship building. The "Blue Water Navy" strategy, as it is being outlined in several international studies, is not only intelligent, but also a catalyst for the concepts of national identity and strategic culture. From the constructivist perspective, the generic cultural category of the "caliphate" is still "alive" not only as an idealistic driver in hearts and minds of many Turkish politicians but also as a capitalist reform bound to international imperialistic perspectives, where investments and business practices serve geostrategic aspirations.en
