This article aims to present a preliminary assessment of the impact of COVID-19 on the Brazilian electricity sector and provides a basis for future studies. Although the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic generates an important primary concern with the lives of those directly and indirectly affected and the capacity of health systems, we cannot leave aside the widespread and unprecedented impacts on virtually all aspects of our society.
