dc.description.abstract | The European Capital Movements (FDI) 1958-2018 Dataset aims to bring together the main quantitative sources on the behaviour and performance of capital movements in and from Europe. In brief, the study covers the main patterns of European FDI behavior. The chronology runs from the beginning of the current European Union (EEC) to the present. Central, East and Southeast Europe (CESEE) is included. This dataset constitutes a part of the research project 'Capital movements within a global Europe, from the 1950s onwards' carried out at the EUI as Visiting Fellow of the RSCAS. I was beneficiary of the Salvador de Madariaga programme with a grant awarded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of Spain, ref. PRX19/00692. This dataset is part of a long-run investigation that copes finally with the viability and political profitability of the capitalist system, via an institutional economic approach. These excel files aimed at the referred target could be clasified in four parts: a) 1-8: files devoted to population, production and productivity variables, b) 9-16: files devoted to the relative scarcity of capital (FDI) in Europe and the East countries (CESEE), c) 17-23: files devoted to the economic motivation for investing in Europe and CESEE, d) Economic expectations and FDI flows/ stocks in CESEE by partners. I need to underline the reconstruction with real data (not back projections) of the Net FDI (Outward - Inward) series for getting the best perception -or intuition- on their progress.
This is the first step in order to get an economic historical description about how European capital on the move has performed. Econometric analysis could be eventually developed. | |
