In much of the literature on corruption, politics is seen as the source of corruption. Identifying it as the thing that is being corrupted raises considerable difficulties, not least because of the intrinsically contestable nature of politics itself. This lecture makes the case for identifying corruption in relation to standards internal to politics and links disputes about the definition and analysis of corruption to recent work on realism in political theory.
