Dataset comprises intergenerational educational inequality coefficients and contextual macro indicators in sub-Saharan Africa for birth cohorts 1974–2003. Dataset contains 153 country-by-survey-year observations and 35 variables. Observations comprise 40 countries and 1-7 survey-years per country. Variables include descriptive variables and inequality coefficients estimated using DHS and MICS household surveys at the individual level. The analytical sample for calculating inequality coefficients was children aged 14-16, matched with their parents’ or caretakers information from the same datasets. In addition, the dataset includes aggregate data on contextual factors from open sources. Descriptive variables comprise: country name, country ID, survey name, survey year, number of observations, birth cohort, share of children from high socio-economic status families, and share of children attending primary education, completing six grades, and completing six grades conditional on attendance. Estimated inequality coefficients comprise: three intergenerational educational inequality coefficients (attendance, completion, and completion conditional on attendance) and their standard errors. Contextual macro indicators comprise: malnutrition prevalence, fertility rate, school fee abolition reform year, public spending on education as a share of GDP, pupil-teacher ratio, and GDP per capita.en
