On 30 October 2022, members registered in the four Syrian chambers of industry, including the most prominent ones in Damascus and Rural Damascus and in Aleppo, elected their new boards of directors for the period 2022-2026. A new board of directors of the Syrian Federation of Chambers of Industry was then elected at the end of November 2022. The composition of these new boards reflects the evolving landscape of Syria’s business networks and their role in the political economy. This study illustrates the structure of the chambers of industry and of the Syrian Federation of Chambers of Industry, and the rules which frame their composition and organisation. It then examines the results of the recent elections. The study addresses the dynamics in the manufacturing sector and the roles played by the members of the Syrian chambers of industry, their ties with the Syrian regime and the degree of influence they have on the Syrian economic and political scenes.en
