What does economic theory has to say about energy prices and climate change ? This article presents, though a detour by Janos Kornai's 'Economics of shortage', why the material reality of climate change and energy production and consumption renders mainstream economic theory over-reliant on prices and monetary redistribution. Hence, such theory supports a lack of public intervention detrimental both to fighting climate change, supporting economic prosperity and reducing inequality.
