This chapter examines the processes of democratic transformation in Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine. These countries must meet the political criteria for membership established by the European Union. To achieve this goal, they should implement reforms in the rule of law, protection of human rights, judicial independence, the fight against corruption, and building stable institutions, among others. The chapter discusses the common and differing challenges countries face in democratic transformation, particularly those under consideration for candidate status by the European Union as of June 2022. The chapter's various studies, reports, expert assessments, and documents confirm that these states must make significant changes in the coming years.en
