Abstract

In recent decades, despite concerted efforts to mitigate it, human smuggling has become increasingly entrenched within migratory patterns. To enhance understanding of this complex phenomenon, this paper proposes a new conceptual framework that highlights the interplay among three critical dimensions: control, complexity, and creativity. Together, these dimensions offer a nuanced lens through which to view human smuggling, emphasizing its adaptive nature and the socio-political forces that drive its evolution. This framework not only contributes to a more comprehensive academic discourse on human smuggling but also suggests the need for policy approaches that recognize the phenomenon's inherent complexities.
