This working paper explores the significant role of Emmy Freundlich in the 1927 International Economic Conference, highlighting her contributions as a pioneering figure in the cooperative movement, social democracy, and feminism. By analysing Freundlich’s work both in the preparation and aftermath of the Conference, the study provides a nuanced perspective on the major international economic issues of the interwar period from the viewpoint of women involved in the cooperative movement. It underscores the intersection of Freundlich’s activities with the broader dynamics of the League of Nations’ Economic and Financial Organisation, offering insights into the complex interactions between alternative projects in developing global economic governance. This research not only sheds light on the often-overlooked contributions of women to international economic thinking but also challenges the traditional narrative of globalisation as a binary conflict between proponents and opponents of neoliberalism. Through extensive use of archival sources and detailed analysis of the conference proceedings, the paper reveals the enduring impact of Freundlich’s efforts on the integration of the cooperative movement within the international community, emphasising the importance of her leadership in shaping transnational economic policies.en
