Abstract
Following the elections of 6-9 June 2024 and the subsequent formation of a new European Commission, we are at the turn of a European term. At the time of writing this chapter, although digitalisation will probably remain at the top of the agenda, many details of European Union (EU) action in the coming years are not yet totally clear. Nonetheless, the time is ripe to review the initiatives taken in the past five years. One of the six European Commission priorities for 2019-2024 was called ‘A Europe fit for the digital age.’ Under this priority a wide number of initiatives were taken, and several acts were adopted. A comprehensive update about all these initiatives and acts would go far beyond the scope of this chapter. It will therefore focus on initiatives taken at the EU level ‘strictly speaking’ on digital finance.
