This paper explores the topic of 19th Century European democracy. To be more specific, it initially examines the relationship between racial languages and the transnational political imaginaries and practices developed in southern Europe. In addition, it explores the explicitly socialist aspect of republican democracy and its links to local associative practices. The chosen approach favours a transnational perspective rooted in southern republicanism, offering a lens through which to study our subject from a traditionally overlooked or marginalized point of view. Through an exploration of the political experiences and contributions of the Spanish republican Fernando Garrido Tortosa, the article aims to illuminate transnational democracy and the interconnections and influences of European radicals in the second half of the century.en
