International investment awards are crucial for the resolution of a specific dispute as well as the ongoing advancement of international (investment) law. In fact, investment awards are a ‘subsidiary means for the determination of the rules of law’ as provided in Article 38 of the Statute of the International Court of Justice. Investment awards are a timely and topical issue to investigate due to their continuing historical and legal significance. This chapter examines investment awards throughout history. This research can lead to a better understanding of international investment law’s past, present, and future trajectories, as well as its contribution to the development of international law more broadly.
