With this special issue our aim is to take some steps toward examining the various manifestations of violent repertoires of action, both historical and contemporary, around the globe. This introduction will develop a theoretical foundation for the contributions contained in this special issue by stressing the connection between the four articles and laying out a few important achievements and problems in studying of political violence. Each of the contributors in this issue’s proposal will add an important aspect to the current literature and introduce themes that we hope will be developed further in future research. We have included in this proposal contributions emphasizing some main issues in research on political violence, including the explanation of the insurrectionary collective action phenomena in reference to the 2008 Greeks events; the intra-organizational dynamics in the processes of radicalization of the Egyptian group al-Jamaa alIslamiyya; the state strategy rule in the disengagement process out of political violence in Northern Ireland; the memory reconstruction of former EOKA, BR, PL, PAC and armed activists.
