dc.description.abstract | To start with, I am grateful to the six historians who contributed thoughtful and incisive essays about my book, The Habsburg Empire. A New History. It is an unparalleled luxury for any author to receive such treatment from peers. Their reflections can help us to consider bigger issues than simply those raised by my book. By locating the book’s contributions to our shared fields, in highlighting its weaknesses, in raising the key questions they believe the book leaves unanswered, and most importantly, in articulating the directions they believe the field of Habsburg history could and should take in the future, their insights move us forward. | en |
