This historiographic essay discusses the book Seksualnaja revalucyja ŭ Savieckaj Biełarusi, 1917-1929 by Alaksandr Hužałoŭski (Minsk, 2017). Valodzin confronts archival and printed sources on same-sex desire and gender ambiguity with Hužałoŭski's treatment of these very sources. It turns out that Hužałoŭski's interpretation of his sources is too far away from the text of the source; at times, he distorts sources in order to fit them to his own politically conservative and sexophobic position. At the same time, sources found by Hužałoŭski are extremely interesting and important for writing Belarusian history of sexuality in 1920s.en
