The dataset Cotton Exports from Brazil, 1758-1815 brings together export data series from Maranhão and the northeast, the two main cotton-growing regions in Brazil from the 1750s to the 1810s. Drawing on figures taken from published and unpublished sources, the dataset covers cotton and rice exports from Maranhão, between 1758 and 1815 (spreadsheet A), and their prices, between 1770 and 1807 (spreadsheet B). The database also provides new figures on cotton and sugar exports from northeastern Brazil shipped through Pernambuco (spreadsheet C). Thanks to the 1,246 cargo lists of vessels that sailed to Portugal (spreadsheet D), it was possible to build a series of exports of sugar and cotton between 1761 and 1813 and their prices between 1780 and 1807 (spreadsheets E and F).
